The Mayo Clinic

The Mayo Clinic will chronicle the history of this unique medical institution, from its 19th century roots as an unlikely partnership between a country doctor and the Sisters of Saint Francis—forged in response to a devastating tornado in 1883—to its position today as a worldwide model for collaborative patient care, research, and education. It will be a two-hour film on the history and pioneering work of what many believe is the best medical center on earth, where, as William and Charles Mayo insisted, “The needs of the patient come first.” It is a story of faith, science, and hope.

The Mayo Clinic will be produced by Ken Burns, Erik Ewers, Chris Ewers, and Julie Coffman, and written by David Blistein.
