The mission of The Better Angels Society is to complete funding for historical documentary films, and support the educational tools and engagement opportunities that accompany each film.

In addition, we fund specific projects that fulfill our larger mission; film preservation and restoration, educational outreach and lifelong learning, supporting a new generation of documentary filmmakers and encouraging civic dialogue around the myriad of issues the films raise.

Every gift restricted to a specific film will be accompanied by an overall budget for the supported film(s) so donors can clearly see where their funds will be used. Annual reports will be submitted to donors to track actual spending and measure impact.

All restricted gifts at the $100,000 level and above include a 7% administrative fee to the Better Angels Society and an option for specific funds directed to the Society’s goals for generational educational impact, civic outreach and dialogue and the legacy of Ken Burns.

All gifts are payable over a five-year period unless a shorter time-frame is dictated by the film’s broadcast date.
