9TO5: THE STORY OF A MOVEMENT

by Julia Reichert

9 to 5: The Story of a Movement, directed by Julia Reichert and Steve Bognar, follows the female secretaries and office workers who started a movement amongst themselves to advocate for fair pay, better working conditions, and more career opportunities at the height of the Second Wave feminist movement in the 1970s. The film uses archival footage to depict the story of this movement as it evolved from a local group based in Boston to a national organization that inspired, the 1980 film of the same name that starred Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin, and Jane Fonda, whose own interviews with the movement’s members inspired her to make the film.
