NEXT GENERATION ANGELS AWARDS:

MENTORSHIP

At the center of Ken Burns’ legacy as a filmmaker is his dedication to enhancing national discourse about American history.

It is now more important than ever to support young filmmakers interested in carrying on this tradition by telling America’s stories in an unbiased, fact-based manner. For this reason, The Next Generation Angels Awards program provides the six winners with an opportunity to discuss their own films with Ken Burns, his colleagues at Florentine Films, and the winners of the 2020 Library of Congress Lavine/Ken Burns Prize for Film.

This program will provide students with the opportunity to learn about the documentary filmmaking craft, how to conduct historical research and quality interviews from Ken Burns, America’s premier historical documentary filmmaker. The Next Generation Angels will get the chance to enrich their understanding of the filmmaking process and receive validation and support from the professional filmmaking community, their peers, and from teachers.
